Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 2023 – Amorotti

Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 2023 – Amorotti

Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 2023 – Amorotti

If Amorotti’s Montepulciano had struck me as convincing, though without real excitement, the 2023 Trebbiano from this Loreto Aprutino estate proved convincing and, at times, genuinely exciting.

Since I have not found complete technical details on Amorotti’s official channels, I rely here on my senses and on what is reported by various online sources: Trebbiano d’Abruzzo grown on pergola-trained vines, vinified with an artisanal and low-intervention approach, aged in large 25-hectolitre oak vessels and then further refined in bottle. The volume and texture of the palate also suggest some work on the lees, although I have found no official confirmation of this.

The colour is an intense yellow, already tending towards gold. On the nose it shows a distinctive and original character, with notes of evening primrose, ripe medlar, cardoon honey and, in the background, lime, aromatic herbs and a more vegetal trace.

On the palate it is layered and slightly textured: it brings together acidity and substance, with salinity well above average, good persistence and uncommon personality.

A wine of considerable calibre and, at the same time, great drinking pleasure.

Thanks to Il Magazzino / Happy Wine, whose sourcing of the bottles finally allowed me to taste Amorotti’s wines.

Trebbiano 2015 – Valentini

Trebbiano 2015 – Valentini

With Trebbiano 2015 Valentini Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Doc we meet again after six years since the last time, then it was the 2010 vintage, and the conclusion is this: Valentini’s Trebbiano is a wine that does not resemble any other wine.

Net of a very subtle refermentation that vanished in the time elapsed between lunch and dinner, it is a rich and composed wine, it is not a wine that pushes, it is a wine that opens up like a fan and opens various perceptive doors, of rare length and presence. Cross-country and kaleidoscopic, less fresh than the last drink, much more savory and textural.

Fermented and aged in large oak barrels. I would define the color as “archetypal straw yellow”, the bouquet is continually enriched and I’m sorry that the bottle didn’t last as long as I usually try to make it last at home. It recalls jonquil, snuffbox peach, saffron, and brings to mind green olive brine and toasted coffee.

Complexity that does not require interpretative efforts. On the palate it is a wine of depth and great intensity. Textured, enveloping, very persistent and savory, with a unique and unparalleled flavor.

For me, this bottle will remain the one uncorked at home during the pandemic and not the one uncorked by Romano in Viareggio on an unforgettable evening, but in the register of wine memories they both make a great impression.
