Barbaresco Manzola 2011 – Fiorenzo Nada

Manzola, MGA in Treiso.

Barbaresco Manzola 2011 – Fiorenzo Nada

What always strikes me in the wines of the Fiorenzo Nada estate, now run by Bruno Nada, is their clear predisposition to ageing: even after many years, the glass reveals wines that remain vibrant, rigorous, and expressive without losing their sense of measure.

What does this Barbaresco Manzola 2011 tell us, beyond the purely hedonistic fact that it paired beautifully with chicken breast and porcini mushrooms, lending remarkable sensory depth to a family dinner?

In my case, it tells of yet another 2011 from the Langhe that has found a convincing, fully resolved form over time. After all, wine does not question vintage rankings, nor does it allow its own achievement to be contaminated by the forecasts of experts.

Manzola, an MGA in Treiso. South-west exposure, 24 months in oak and 6 months in bottle.

The colour is a perfect, luminous garnet.

It opens with prevailing notes of mulberry and chinotto, then broadens towards hints of eucalyptus, umami, rhubarb and aromatic herbs. With time, the chinotto becomes more present and more defining within an olfactory profile that is decidedly well unfolded.

On the palate it is silky and resolved, medium-bodied, with lively acidity, marked sapidity and good persistence. In the tannin one can still imagine an ancient severity, of which a shape, a trace, remains.

A wine of assured gait and commendable gustatory progression.
